GENERAL HINTS FOR INTERPRETING A SPREAD

Reading a spread is a lot like reading a book. When you read a book, you consider the flow of the text as a whole. So also when  you interpret a Tarot Spread, one has to look at how the cards relate to one another and read them as part of a total presentation.  If you do not do this, your Tarot Spread Reading will be disjointed and fragmented focusing on only the individual meaning of the cards in the particular spread than on the message of the spread as a whole.

Therefore before you start interpreting the spread to the client it is always a good idea to review the entire spread and get some sense of its overall energy flow. Is the spread optimistic or negative in its tendency? Does the future look hopeful or are there problems? If there are key issues to be resolved, then what is the nature of their source?

HOW IS THE TAROT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER DIVINATION TOOLS?

Any divination tool is best used with the understanding that nothing is inscribed in stone. Your imagination gives you the power to write the scripts you live, to change what you do not like and to create more of what you like. YOU set the course of your life - not the divination tool, not the reader, not destiny. When the cards are drawn you have a picture of how your life exists in that moment and how it is going to evolve based on your patterns of belief.  Tarot and other divination tools are a way to keep a track of what is going on inside yourself or for the person for whom you are reading.   The major difference between Tarot and other divination systems is that its language is visual. Tarot is the manifestation of the Internal.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN LAYING OUT THE RELEVANT SPREAD

There are no rules about laying out spreads or interpreting them, but the following guidelines provide a framework and structure from which to work :

1. Make sure that you are always in a quiet and comfortable environment. See that the table on which you are going to lay out the cards is big enough to accomodate all the cards.

2. You can light candles, incence or play some soft music to allow you to focus and create the ideal mood.

3. Chant your prayers or any other ritual that you wish to do.

4. Keep a notebook or journal near you to make notes or comments.

5. Write down all the issues or questions that the client says before you begin.

6. Shuffle the cards. Focus on the question while doing so.  Intuitively you will know when to stop shuffling.

7. Repeat the question to yourself while you are drawing the cards.

8. Put the cards in the right order as per the question and the spread connected to it.

9. Connect with  the cards and interpret them for your client.

KNOW YOUR DECK IN DETAIL

THE FOUR  ELEMENTS

The division of the world of creation into four elements - Fire, Water, Earth and Air is a metaphysical idea. It is useful to consider the traditional attributes and qualities ascribed to each of the elements, for the elements relate to the Tarot cards, and knowing their attributes can assist us with interpreting the Tarot.

The four elements are linked to the four Tarot suits as follows:

   Fire               Wands

   Water              Cups

   Air                Swords

   Earth              Pentacles

Wands are associated with groth, energy,  personal enterprise, new ideas and creativity.

Cups symbolise love, happiness, emotions, linked to fertility and beauty. Cups refer to the subconscious mind rather than the intellectual.

Swords represent aggression, ambition, struggle and animosity.

Pentacles are associated with property, finance and the fruits of labour

YOUR TAROT DECK

CARING  FOR  YOUR  DECK

There is no hard and fast rules for caring for your cards.  But you should definiitely treat them as though they are your close friend.  Keep your cards wrapped in a red silk cloth in a special box or pouch.  When you first take the cards out of the box, lay them on the silk cloth and allow them to breathe.  Connect with them. Touch them.  Pick them up.  Study each of them. If you do a reading for someone who has very negative energies or issues, perform a cleansing ritual after the reading. Even when your cards become old, you will prefer the old pack because you have connected with the deck and trust only this deck to give you the right answers.

MORE ABOUT THE TAROT ....

 A  TYPICAL  TAROT  DECK

The typical Tarot Deck has 78 cards that are divided into the Major Arcana (22) and the Minor Arcana (56). The major Arcana represent individuals who personify a particular quality or archetype. The 56 cards of the Minor Arcana represents events, people, behaviour, ideas and activities that go on in our life. When most of the cards in any layout are Major Arcanas there is likely to be an important issue that needs attention in the life of the person. If we choose a load of Minor Arcanas then it is likely that there is a simple solutions to the problem or that events will unfold quickly.

Each card has an image, a name and a number which are potent symbols and have specific meanings.  Getting to know their meaning, and your own reactions to the symbols means you can identify with these qualities in your own life, work with them in a positive way and enhance personal developments and relationships. The symbols have a profound significance - they open up to the hidden depths of ourselves which we choose to deny or repress. The cards in the Tarot Deck helps us to understand ourselves and make choices about the future.

Most people want to find out the meaning for tarot cards. As  there are so many decks out there, and so many different spreads (or ways to throw and interpret the cards), assigning a specific meaning for tarot cards, across all decks and spreads, is quite impossible. However, it is possible to develop a strong working relationship with specific decks of cards so that the meaning for tarot cards in your specific deck or decks becomes very clear. The more you work with a specific deck, the greater your connection with that deck will be. And the more accurate your readings will be. Also,  the more you practice the more you will be able to intuit the meaning for tarot cards, regardless of the deck or spread. As you will find out tarot card meanings can become a very personal issue and are often the result of your own intuition.

Tarot is one of the oldest forms of fortune telling known to man. A tarot deck is  usually 78 cards, that is used by a skilled person in the reading of them. Depending on the type of questions that you have asked,  the reader will consult the cards to show  what you are needing to know. Tarot cards have been around since the 15th century and are still one of the worlds most common ways of divining into the future.

When someone sits down to do a tarot reading for you, they shuffle the deck well while they are concentrating on you and  the question that you are wanting to find the answer to. They cut the deck and then begin the reading by laying out a certain number of cards. This number depends on what type of reading that you are having.

You are not the only person to wonder what is Tarot Card Reading and what it can do to help you. As the person doing the readings flips the cards, they will tell you what the cards mean and what this could possibly mean for you. Cards from the "major arcana" like The Fool have very specific meanings that your reader will tell you about and let you know what this could mean for your future. Cards from the "minor arcana" like the Ten of Cups could have a more broad meaning. These cards can also accent each other and have different meanings when put together. Now you don't have to wonder what is Tarot Card Reading.

You don't have to be someone who believes in tarot to benefit from a reading, usually the cards will make a believer out of you. No one has really been able to explain why the cards are able to divine the future. It could be in the cards, but mostly it is the cards in the hands of someone who knows how to use them. The tarot  reader is  someone who is experienced in tarot and feels as though their deck communicates  to them directly.

Everyone has something in their lives they need support for. Sometimes it may seem that there is no solution to be found. But now that you have the answer to the question of what is Tarot Card Reading, you have the key to open that door.

MORE ABOUT TAROT

TAROT  SPREADS

A Tarot reading typically starts with the reader (self or other) shuffling the deck, and is laid out in one of a variety of patterns called spreads. This is then interpreted by the interpreter or reader. The spreads cover the subject's thoughts and desires (known or unknown) or past, present, and future events. Each position in the spread is assigned a number, and the cards are turned over in that sequence, with each card being contemplated/interpreted before moving to the next, and in connection with neighbouring cards.  Each position has an interpretation indicating what aspect of the question the card in that position is referring to.
Sometimes, before being dealt, the initial card in a spread is chosen to represent the querent or the question being asked, often from the major arcana. This card is called the significator and is removed from any further role in the spread.

UNDERSTANDING  TAROT CARD  READING

Genrally In the people's minds, "Tarot card reading" means a lady in fancy Clothes, leaning over a small table in a candlelit room, foretelling impending doom.
But that's not really what Tarot cards are about. In fact, they're not even really meant to tell your fortune or future. According to The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, "The most powerful sources of information come from within; the Tarot aids in coming in contact with one's Higher Self."
'
In this Blog we'll look at the various ideas about where Tarot cards come from, what they mean and how a deck of cards can possibly tell you anything about yourself. You'll learn why it matters where the cards fall and why you don't have to be a psychic to do a Tarot reading.
